The European energy sector is facing significant challenges as it transforms to reduce CO2 emissions and increase energy independence. More renewable energy sources, like wind and solar power, are being integrated into the grid. This shift creates complexities, especially with the growing use of power electronic converters in hybrid AC/DC systems. Operators struggle to maintain grid stability and situational awareness amid these rapid changes. In this context, the EU-funded InterSCADA project is developing an open-source, vendor-independent SCADA system. This modular platform will enable operators to quickly adapt to sudden system changes and implement new monitoring functions. Demonstration sites in four countries will test InterSCADA’s solutions.
