Governor and control systems for water turbines (TG)

The offer of the Institute of Power Engineering, Gdańsk Division includes upgrading of old devices and manufacturing of new digital electrohydraulic turbine governors (TG) and power systems for all types of turbines (Kaplan, Francis, Pelton, Deriaz, etc.).

 

System characteristics:

  • automatic, one-pulse start and shutdown of the turbine
  • adjustment of the angular speed at idle according to the set value, changed by “higher-lower” pulses by the operator or coming from the automatic synchronisation system
  • automatic loading the hydro units after synchronisation to the set value determined locally or remotely
  • turbine load regulation in various operating modes (power control, level control, speed control, flow control, opening control)
    optimisation of the position of rotor blades as a function of the opening of the steering apparatus and the current drop
  • quick shutdown of the turbine in the event of protection activation or initiated by the operator using the safety button
  • manual control and setting of the opening of the vanes and the position of the turbine rotor blades in the service mode
  • adaptation to association with the superior control and monitoring system for the power plant operation (Modbus, Profibus).

 

The main elements of the hydraulic part of the governor are:

  • actuators for inlet guide vanes
  • hydraulic power unit
  • hydraulic control units (for vanes, rotor, brake, emergency shutdown, etc.)
  • in the construction of the hydraulic part of the turbine governor, we use elements manufactured by leading companies (Bosch-Rextroth, Have, Balluff, Hydac, etc.).

 

The main elements of the digital and metering part of the governor are:

  • digital control unit (Simatic, SAIA)
  • touchscreen operator panel (Siemens, ESA, SAIA)
  • measuring units for rotational speed, rotor blade position and inlet guide vanes
  • measuring systems for water levels and losses on the grating.
