Laboratory of Advanced Metering Infrastructure

The Laboratory of Advanced Metering Infrastructure at the Institute of Power Engineering, Gdańsk Division serves to test Power Line Communication (PLC). It has a reference low-voltage network separated from the Institute's power supply network through separating transformers and the Line Impedance Stabilization Network system (LISN). The total length of the low-voltage network in the laboratory is 200 metres.

The laboratory performs the following types of tests:

  • communication quality tests of PLCs located at a cable distance of up to 200 metres
  • tests on the impact of interference on the quality of PLC communication
  • tests of mutual interference / simultaneous operation of various PLC communication techniques in one low-voltage network
  • tests of compliance with the PLC communication specification/standard
  • tests of cooperation/compatibility of devices from various manufacturers using the same PLC technique

The laboratory is equipped with devices for measuring and recording the strength of the PLC signal and the level of interference. We can also generate strictly defined types of interferences at selected points of the network and integrate filters in the network that additionally suppress PLC signals.
