Telemetry controller with short-circuit detection

The STGP-3.5-SP(-GSM) controller is an element of equipment of control and supervision systems for transformer stations and cable connections as well as overhead switch disconnectors in closed housing installed in medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) power networks.The controller is the basic element of equipment of teleinformation and control units for the above facilities that enables automation of these networks.

The controller enables simultaneous communication with several dispatcher systems using a GSM (2G/3G/LTE) radio communication module, a TETRA modem or an Ethernet connection. A GSM modem can be both an element integrated with the controller and an external device.

STGP-3.5-SP(-GSM) is ready to perform the functions of a smart power grid, including, above all, the ability to effectively detect the short-circuit current flow based on measurements of phase currents and voltages using selected criteria.

The modular design of the controller enables its flexible hardware configuration determined at the ordering stage.The controller consists of a processor module, binary input/output modules and analogue input modules for current and voltage measurements.

 

The controller provides short-circuit current flow detection for earth and phase-to-phase faults in networks with any type of neutral point operation.

Detection of short-circuit current flow for phase-to-phase faults is based on an overcurrent criterion. Detection of short-circuit current flow for earth faults can be performed based on the following criteria:

  • zero current (I0>)
  • zero-current directional (I0k>, IAWSC)
  • aadmittance (Y0>, G0>, B0>)


The STGP-3.5-SP-GSM controller has 4 sets (banks) of settings for parametrisation of the function of short-circuit current flow detection, with the option of remotely changing the active bank. The short-circuit current flow detection system is associated to the function of a disturbance recorder with registration of binary and analogue signals in files in the COMTRADE standard.

The STGP-3.5-SP controller is equipped with a number of modern solutions for the device and system authentication and data encryption:

  • conformity to the IEC 62351 series of standards for authentication and encryption of communication with the SCADA system
  • 802.1x security (802.1x supplicant) with digital certificate authentication
  • creating IPsec VPN tunnels in the “Remote access” mode (client-site)
  • application of certificates from a third-party certification authority (compliant with the X.509 standard)
  • implemented mechanism for exchanging/updating public and private keys using the SCEP protocol.

The controller configuration is performed via the website available in the controller.
